Neurosomatic Therapy

A body in balance is a body that is better able to withstand the stresses of life without pain or dysfunction. However, most of us have become more or less distorted through the process of our lives. All of our experiences, be it injuries, emotional stresses or repetitive movement patterns, leave their marks on our bodies, often pulling them out of alignment and into dysfunction and pain.

Neurosomatic Therapy is more than just a form of manual therapy. It is a system in which the postural and movement patterns of the entire body gets measured and charted, which, together with the symptoms and history of the patient, provide the roadmap for an effective therapy.

Through specific massage techniques, muscles and fascial lines that are holding the body in a dysfunctional pattern get released, enabling balance to be restored. Areas of pain does not get treated in isolation, but rather considered within the postural pattern of the entire body. That means, that pain in the shoulder doesn’t necessarily get treated in the shoulder, but rather for example in the hips, legs and/or spine.

An important part of the process of re-finding balance in the body is the active participation of the patient. This will take the form of an increased awareness of his/her own patterns, willingness to work towards changing them, as well as appropriate stretches and strengthening exercises to achieve this goal.

Neurosomatic Therapy is often very effective in addressing chronic pain, but it can be helpful with a wide array of symptoms ranging from TMJ dysfunction and headaches to breathing difficulties and constipation, especially when the cause of these symptoms is hard to diagnose.

Functional Medicine

In Functional Medicine we look for the causes of disease rather than just treating the symptoms.

The functional medicine offers a patient-centered approach, helping to prevent and manage complex symptom patterns and chronic health conditions.

It views our body as a series of systems that interact with each other. It also improves the way these systems work together, using appropriate foods, supplementations, and a variety of other lifestyle modifications to help resolve the Why behind our health and Well-being.

As a functional medicine therapist, I take the time to listen to your medical history. Together, we use this information to determine the root cause(s) of your health condition. Once we identify the triggers, we can create a healthy lifestyle plan for you, which will address many aspects of your life, from physical needs to mental and emotional. The foundation of functional medicine is the use of food as MEDICINE. Proper nutrition, combined with lifestyle and behavioral interventions, will help you take care of your health.

You will lead the way, and together we will start to discover the answers you’ve been looking for, so that you can take your health into your own hands.

What you should know:

During your Functional Medicine consultation, I will take the time to listen to you. We will certainly discuss your symptoms, but we will also look closely at your diet, exercise Patterns, previous traumas, sleep patterns, stress levels and any possible exposure to toxins.

We will focus on the way your body is functioning, and identify the areas that may be out of balance. The areas we will consider include:

  • Digestive health
  • Energy levels
  • Immune system
  • Metabolic system
  • Body’s structure and physical function
  • Elimination of toxins
  • Hormone system

At your first visit, you will complete a detailed medical history questionnaire. The information you provide will form the basis for our investigation into the cause(s) of your current chronic condition.

Your initial visit will last approximately 2 hours. This gives us time to:

  • Review your medical history.
  • Perform a physical examination.
  • Order lab tests and perform special blood tests if needed.
  • Introduce you to our “food as medicine” philosophy.
  • Identifying your health goals.
  • Discussing treatments

REiki

„Each and every being has an innate ability to heal as a gift from the gods „. Mikao Usui

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.”

Reiki is an energy technique in which a Reiki practitioner uses gentle hand movements with the intention to guide the flow of healthy energy (what’s known in Reiki as “life force energy”) through the patient’s body to reduce stress and promote healing.

The Reiki belief system and that of the practitioner is that they don’t cause the healing, nor are they the source of that healing energy; they’re a channel for the energy.

Reiki practice is extremely passive. The Reiki practitioner’s hands are still for most of the treatment, moving only to change hand placements. Reiki energy in the practitioner’s hands arises spontaneously in response to the individual recipient’s need for balance at that particular time. In this way, each Reiki treatment is automatically customized to the immediate need of that particular recipient, even though the practitioner may use the same sequence of hand placements for each treatment

The Reiki practitioner is neutral, making no attempt to fix the recipient or to change the biofield. Additionally, the practitioner does not in any way control Reiki energy; she/he merely rests her hands lightly on the body.

Reiki is linked to a range of physical and emotional health benefits, including better sleep, improved mood, and pain relief in published studies. Research suggests Reiki helps the body return to a state of relaxation, which allows it to potentially better heal from damage brought on by stress, injury, or disease. Not only does the person move toward his or her own unique balance in body, mind and spirit, but also, depending on the level of physical health when Reiki begins, the body’s own healing mechanisms often begin functioning more effectively. It also helps to remove energy blocks in a similar way to acupuncture or acupressure improving the flow of energy around the body, enable relaxation and release of pain.

What happens in a Reiki session?

You lie on a massage table, fully dressed, while a practitioner places their palms on or just over different body parts that are thought to be hubs for energy. The practitioner positions their hands in up to 15 different ways. They decide how long to leave their palms in each spot based on the flow of energy that they perceive they’re feeling through their hands.

Even though you’re resting on a massage table, the practitioner isn’t giving a massage, using pressure, or manipulating your joints. They’re simply using gentle touch at most and they will typically keep their hands in these positions for 1-3 minutes and an energy transfer takes place. A typical session lasts 95- minutes to 2 hours. After the Reiki, I always spend time talking to the patients about what came up for them and perhaps also what I intuited.

The multileveled, rapid response to Reiki suggests a complex process that engages many body systems, simultaneously or in quick succession, shifting the body from domination by the “fight or flight” (stress) response to the relaxation response, and supporting the body’s own healing mechanisms. The parasympathetic-dominant state is the state we are meant to live in and Reiki helps to support one’s autonomic nervous system toward that state of safety, rest, recovery, and ease.
